This is a collection of beautiful works from a selection of local artists in our first Micro Exhibition called Spoonful - celebrating the soulful art of shaping wood into functional beauty.

The brief was to create an item that resembles a spoon which allows for the artistic interpretation and functional beauty of an everyday object.

The works exhibited in Spoonful are available for sale both in our Montville Woods Gallery and here on our website from 1st-30th June. Any works purchased before the end of the exhibition on 30 June 2025 will be posted out in the first week of July 2025 and will incur a postage cost of $12.95 inc gst.

Short Bios for participating artists:

Randy DeGraw - Born in Michigan, USA Randy makes bespoke furniture and art décor for clients and exhibitions, winning many prestigious prizes to include the Kalgoorlie Boulder Art Prize.

Gary Field - Gary uses Australian and exotic fine timbers and carves individually designed shapes inspired by nature. A recipient of the Wootha Prize and with collections in many countries, Gary Field’s work is an inspiration to aspiring wood carvers and sculptors.

Danny Holmes - Danny is a greenwood spoon carver who is passionate about traditional craft. He creates beautiful but functional pieces, honouring the tree by often incorporating existing features into the finished product. It is both immersive and meditative and deepens his connection to the natural world.

Trevor Irvine - Trevor is an accomplished woodworker and artist. He works in many mediums, with some of his sculptures cast in bronze. Trevor is a regular participant in exhibitions and competitions with many prizes awarded for his varied works.

Arabella Lubbers - Arabella is a “learner” wood carver from Montville. She learnt to carve a spoon with Gary Field here at Montville Woods Gallery in 2022 and was hooked. Arabella has since carved a range of decorative items and spoons. Warning, wood carving is addictive.

Scott Waterhouse - Scott is a spoon carver from Brisbane. He learnt to carve a spoon with Carol Russell at the Maleny Wood Expo in 2007 and was hooked. Scott has since carved over 400 spoons and doesn’t plan on stopping until he’s made at least a thousand.
